Residencies are a fantastic “perk” of being an artist or designer. I first heard about WORKSHOP Residence in Dwell Magazine and was immediately taken by this project. Based in San Francisco, artists/designers from around the world are invited to WORKSHOP to develop products in conjunction with local makers. The resulting objects blur the line between art, design, and consumer goods. Spend some time on their website and you’ll see that this residency has taken some of the participating artists in unexpected directions…Dirk Van Saene built small scale ceramic pieces and Anne Hamilton employed denim.
